Astreux Voeviere

de durendaire

touched by the Fury's Grace

the Lord Inquisitor

A face can be difficult to forget, especially one so heavily scarred. There are Temple Knights who still remember dragging Knight-Inquisitor Voeviere back to the chirurgeons of Whitebrim, nearly dead, a battered and broken shell of a man. The whispers spread like wildfire. The man had always been so confident, unshakable, and here he was, half his face ruined, stare blank, silence like a funeral shroud over him. His forced retirement came as no surprise, nor did his disappearance from Ishgard entirely, half a year later. For nearly a decade, Astreux was living and working in Ul'dah, makeup and glamours and local styles to mask his past, though his accent never fully went away. He said he was an expatriot. A researcher in the field of aetherology. He even made a name for himself in the field, with a few minor publications. It never really was home, though. At what point during his tenure abroad he began working once more for the Tribunal, no one can say for sure. He was, after all, a deniable asset, in a foreign state. But the letters would arrive. Others would be sent. Small circles of Heretics bent against the Orthodoxy would suddenly crumble and fade away, never to step foot in Coerthas again. And life went on.His return to Ishgard was long overdue, and he is done hiding the tapestry of his service carved upon his body.

The Basics

  • Ishgardian Elezen, fullblooded in appearance at least, though the rumors that House Durendaire has mixed with Duskwight do show in him, subtle though the signs of it are.

  • 40s would be the best way to describe his age, though he stopped counting actual years a while ago-- if he cared to look at the date, he'd see he recently turned 83. You will not catch him claiming a day over 62, though. House Voeviere is known for their longevity as much as for their eccentric mystics and healers.

  • He stands a full 6 fulms 9 ilms tall, though he often has a heel of at least a few ilms to add to his already lofty height. While he does not have the sheer bulk one would expect of a knight, neither is he slim like a scholar, leaving one to wonder how he stays so fit and what for.

  • He claims not to believe in love nor have any interest in relations, not romantic, purely physical, open or committed-- though rumors whisper his attentions are spoken for.

  • Despite living in Ul'dah for nearly 9 years, he still bears a very strong Ishgardian accent.

  • His cologne smells of the deep scent of vetiver and petrichor blended with an airy mixture of ozone and star anise, only given a touch of warmth with amber. The scent was once jokingly nicknamed "sex in the snow" and he didn't deny it.

  • Halone, the Fury is his deity, and the strength of his faith, as well as its trials, have never ended.

Rumors

There are whispers that he has an extensive library on the Healing Arts from a variety of disciplines all across Eorzea, as well as notes on Aetheric Disruptions and their effect on the use of magics, of which he has spent a considerable sum of gil on, building over the years. His mother, Arabella Voeviere de Durendaire, was a gifted healer, well known for her contributions to the chirurgeon's artes, though it is rumored that any spark of magic Astreux himself may have had was snuffed out years ago.For years he served as an Inquisitor for the Tribunal, and many wondered if he had designs for the Heaven's Ward during the command of Ser Vaindreau de Rouchemande. While many called him Knight-Inquisitor to his face, in quiet spaces he was often referred to as the Fury's Shadow or Her Bloody Blades-- never to his face, of course. Some say he left Ishgard a decade ago when he was passed over for multiple positions of command in the Temple Knights. Some say a close friend and companion was exposed as a Heretic, and all authority he had working as an Inquisitor was destroyed. Some say he had a crisis of faith. Only those in service to the Vault know the truth of it.Seemingly overnight, he seemed to appear back in Ishgard as though nothing had happened, as though he had not been mourned and moved on from. Just as suddenly, the Tribunal was welcoming back as Lord Inquisitor. His involvement in various investigations around the Holy See have been suspiciously well publicized, as though the Church is looking to buffer their reputation in a time of slipping control.

RP Hooks

Members of the Tribunal and the Vault will know things about Astreux others are not privy to.Did your character fight in the Dragonsong War at least 7 years before its end? It is possible they might recognize Lord Inquisitor Astreux Voeviere de Durendaire, or have heard of him from other knights. He served under multiple Archbishops and changes of the Ward.Does your character have an interest in Aetherology? It is possible they've come across Astreux's books, Trauma and the Aetheric Body: Case Studies, or The Longterm Effects of War on the Aetheric Soul: From Fallen Soldiers to Haunted Swords, or one of his various articles on Aetherology and the healing artes.Isgardian Nobility, especially those who keep up to date on who has connections with the Belfry, or have perhaps been to a tournament or two, may recognize Astreux, especially after his recent victory in an Escrime Tournament.

OOC Things

  • All art is linked to the artist. Please check them out! (unless it is my art, which is signed Solaris)

  • No Minors, IC or OOC. I'm in my late 30s. Please also be LGBT+ friendly. Thanks.

  • Let's keep IC and OOC separate. Ast may be intense and often an asshole, but that's not OOC, and I like a lot of communication to make sure everything is A-OKAY.

  • Like a hook? Send me a tell! I am always looking for more Ishgardian contacts for Ast! Also, criminal contacts, especially in the line of forbidden knowledge and magic, are highly appreciated!

  • If you have an Inquisitor, someone connected to the Tribunal, or ESPECIALLY the Vault, please reach out. Let's make some connections.

  • Mature RP with at least a good solid paragraph is appreciated. I try to match the amount of depth and length of posts that I am presented with.

  • If you want an idea of what Astreux's voice sounds like, look up Sam Reid's Lestat from AMC's Interview with the Vampire, rasp, accent and all.
